Unlike what obtains on Android smartphones, Bluetooth on iPhones does not allow you to beam media files and the like to and from other devices. While that is a limitation, iPhone Bluetooth is still a very valuable feature because it lets you use your iPhone with a wide range of accessories.
These include: Bluetooth headsets, Bluetooth keyboards, Bluetooth loudspeakers (including Apple’s HomePod), and even a Bluetooth connection to your car system. As such, being able to fix iPhone Bluetooth issues when they arise is important.
What Is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a means of low-power, wireless connectivity between devices. Even more, it allows for devices to be able to automatically connect to each other when within range. Bluetooth has a maximum range of about 100 metres, but in daily use, depending on environmental factors, its range is often significantly less.
Pairing Your IPhone With A Bluetooth Accessory
Make sure that your iPhone and Bluetooth accessory are both turned on and have Bluetooth active. On your iPhone, you can confirm this under Settings -> Bluetooth. Initiate the pairing process from your iPhone.
If your iPhone is unable to connect to the Bluetooth accessory, it might be a problem with the device or with your iPhone itself. If it is the latter, then there might be a big problem. This is because a lot of iPhone services require Bluetooth. Your AirPods, Apple Watch, HomePod, BEATS headphone, BOSE speakers etc all require Bluetooth to function. Therefore, you need Bluetooth to be functional on your iPhone.
How To Fix IPhone Bluetooth Issues
Here are a number of ways to fix iPhone Bluetooth issues:
- Use another device to test the Bluetooth accessory: This is to make sure that the problem is actually with your phone and not the accessory itself. If your Bluetooth device pairs with another device, then you know the problem is from your iPhone.
- Switch off the Bluetooth and reboot: Go to Settings > Bluetooth, and toggle the switch off. Restart your device by holding down the power and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears. Then restart the Bluetooth from Settings > Bluetooth. Now try connecting your accessory again.
- Forget the Device and reconnect again: Open Settings > Bluetooth, then tap in the I icon for the device with the connectivity issues. Now tap Forget this Device, then confirm the action. This will delete your pairing history. You can try pairing with the accessory again.
- You could reset the network settings on your iPhone. Note that this would clear your WiFi settings too, so you will have to rejoin your WiFi network.
- If everything else fails, you can do a factory restore and set up the iPhone as new. Connect your iPhone to a PC, then hold down the power and Home buttons till the screen trns black. Then launch iTunes, which will detect your phone in recovery mode. Tap on Restore Device to return the device to factory settings.
- If after all these steps to fix iPhone Bluetooth issues don’t work, take it to an Apple store to check for hardware issues.
